Every work environment needs a purpose
Cologne, 27 October 2026. Spaces shape how people work. For Kinnarps, Design with a purpose means that every environment and every zone in the office serves a clear purpose. That purpose is defined by the organisation’s vision, goals and ways of working – as well as the needs of the people who use the space. At ORGATEC 2026 in Cologne from 27 to 30 October, the Swedish total interior solution provider demonstrates how purpose-driven work environments are created. It all starts with a thorough analysis. A tour of the stand takes visitors through the process Kinnarps follows together with its customers, from defining organisational goals to creating long-term value through interior solutions.
“From our long experience and many projects, we know that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every office must be shaped by the organisation’s goals, culture and ways of working. In Cologne, we demonstrate why analysis before investment is so important,” says Dan Molander, Commercial Director of Kinnarps AB and CEO of Kinnarps GmbH.
Five questions before planning
The tour takes visitors through five stations, each addressing a key question that should be answered before planning begins. It starts with what the office should achieve for the organisation. Visitors are invited to discuss their own goals and challenges with the Kinnarps team.
The next question explores what people need to concentrate and collaborate effectively. Kinnarps takes a holistic approach to ergonomics, considering the physical, social and organisational work environment. A well-designed work environment can contribute to reduced sick leave and greater employee satisfaction.
The following questions focus on what people need to maintain their performance throughout the day, and how interior solutions can remain sustainable for people, the environment and the economy. Furniture that supports the organisation’s ways of working can stay in use longer, require less maintenance and need replacing less frequently – saving both resources and money.
This leads to the question of how these insights are translated into an interior concept. This is where Design with a purpose becomes tangible. Insights into the organisation and its people form the basis of a workplace strategy and an interior concept in which every part of the office serves a clear purpose and can adapt to future ways of working.
Long-term value beyond the initial investment
The final question concerns the long-term value of the investment. A work environment should continue to deliver value long after the project is completed – through employee wellbeing, productivity, more efficient use of space and sustainability. Focusing solely on the purchase price captures only part of that value. This is why Kinnarps supports its customers throughout the entire process, from consultancy and needs analysis to design, implementation and aftercare.
Experience from more than 500 workplace analyses
This approach begins by asking the right questions before any planning starts. As one of Europe’s leading providers of interior solutions, Kinnarps draws on extensive experience of understanding organisations and their workplace needs.
Since 2012, the company has conducted more than 500 workplace analyses, combining workshops, interviews with managers and employees, and comprehensive surveys covering ways of working, needs and workplace experiences. Together, these analyses have generated more than 50,000 responses, providing valuable insights from hundreds of organisations.
This experience forms the foundation of an analysis-driven approach in which every space is designed with a clear purpose. This is how Design with a purpose translates into work environments that truly support the organisation and its people.
